Fleece Price

Hi there,
Would like to know what is the current price for fleece ? I understand it depends on the micron / quality of the fleece but as a general rule. Also what are people doing with fleece of great than 25 microns?

Hi Carl,
The price will vary depending on the colour, micron and the vegetable matter (ie how clean it is and if it has been skirted).
Contacts that maybe of use are:
AAFT - Paul Vallely
Currabungla Alpacas
AAFL
for their latest price lists. Does anyone know of any other buyers?
There are also private mills where you can have your fleece processed so that you can on sell the finished products such as yarn, tops, etc. depending on how much you would like it processed. You can find them listed in the Find a Processor section of this website. Also see the Summer edition of the AABA Newsletter to see one processors story.
Would love to what others are doing with there over 25 micron fleeces. Also how much others are selling their fleeces for to spinners and what do spinners prefer.
I also believe you can sell them on ebay. Do not know how successful this avenue is maybe others could comment
Hope this helps
Cheers
Janet Sutherland
PS Just to let you know that I do not have any financial or commercial interests with any of the companies that I have mentioned.

Janet, First of all would like to say another great newsletter, thankyou.
Because ours are organic coloured fleeces sell them to home spinners and weavers at field days and Alpaca days. We have given up on AAFL since not wanting fleeces at one stage, there is someone else who has recently started buying fleeces and then making product and giving good prices too. The House of alpaca Bill ham Mobile 0409986235 In NSW thehouseofalpaca@bigpond.com
Prices 16-18 micron $44 a kilo 18-20 $36 20-22 $21.60 22-24 15.60 24-6 $12 26-28 $9 28-35 $3
Currubungla is good too and have sold fleeces there but they only want very fine.
Just a comment here I always price my fleeces on micron, spin fineness and weight and not over the top and worth what we have put into them. However at Epic this time, found did not sell as many as someone was there selling big bags of fleece for $10. Who knows how they could do it or what the quality was but I feel this is letting down the whole industry and the gorgeous fibre that it is.!!
Two years ago sold all our strong fleece to the carpet company, but do not know what they pay now

Morning Joy,
Yes selling fleece at $10.00 per bag I guess whole industry down, But it would be interesting to know why they were selling the fleece at such a price. In regards to the carpet, it is Ed from Velieris that I have been talking to. I'm not sure if there are any other carpet manufacturers in Australia producing alpaca carpet. I would be interested in any leads and happy to follow them up on behalf of all.
Thanks for the replies so far.
Cheers,
Carl

Thanks for the mention Janet.
Australian Alpaca Fibre Testing (AAFT) is buying fleeces under the Australian Ultrafine Bale Scheme. The scheme is being operated under a partnership agreement between ourselves and The House of Alpaca (Bill Ham).
The prices are $36 per kilo for 18 to 19 microns, $44 for 16 to 18 microns and $70 for under 16 microns. The scheme now takes all colours.
Further information is contained on our website at

It has been pointed out to me by Penny at Currubungala that Alpaca Ultimate are now accepting fleece up to 28 micron, alpacaultimate.com.au for more specific details and are giving $66 to $8 Joy.
